Recording Requirements and Fees in Lake County

Lake County applies Indiana's statewide recording standards to all documents submitted for recording. All instruments must be properly acknowledged and notarized. Notarized documents must include the notary's county of residence and commission expiration date. Names must be typed or printed beneath each signature exactly as they appear. A "Prepared by" statement must appear on every document. Paper must be white, no larger than 8.5 by 14 inches, with 20-pound minimum weight.

Margins must be at least 2 inches on the top and bottom of the first and last pages, with half-inch margins on all sides. Interior pages need half-inch margins all around. Font must be at least 10 points in black ink. Documents that don't meet these standards are still accepted but carry a $1 non-conforming page surcharge.
