Boone County Recorder's Office

The Boone County Recorder, Debbie Ottinger, operates out of the Boone County Courthouse at 202 Courthouse Square, Lebanon, IN 46052. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Recorder's website is at boonecounty.in.gov/offices/recorder/, where you can find links to the records lookup tool, fee information, and contact details.

The Recorder's office notes that "instruments are recorded either for giving legal public notice of their existence or for safekeeping and future reference." It is the duty of the Recorder to see that each instrument meets the essential requirements for recording before it is accepted. Once accepted, every document is scanned and indexed into a computer system and then microfilmed for archival purposes. This dual preservation approach keeps Boone County property records accessible both digitally and in physical archive form.

The Recorder operates under IC 36-2-11, which defines the scope of duties for county recorders in Indiana. Those duties focus on recording, filing, and preserving property documents. The Recorder also serves on the county commission on public records. Services include document recording, copy preparation and certification, acknowledgment of conveyances, and UCC financing statement filing.
